JR-Unframed|2014
“A breathless leap frozen across time—where archival history blends seamlessly with sunlight and architectural illusion.”
Published as an official exhibition publication by Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden, Germany, this poster features the renowned site-specific installation UNFRAMED, Baden-Baden (2014) by internationally acclaimed French artist JR.
Through his landmark global series UNFRAMED, JR collaborates with archives to re-contextualize historical photographs into monumental public art. For this piece, JR retrieved a 1951 photograph capturing two boys exuberantly leaping during a children’s radio play recording for SWF. Paste-ups were applied directly to the monumental stone walls of Baden-Baden, positioned so that the black-and-white figures appear to jump straight out of an open architectural window under the glowing German sun.
As an authentic museum publication (84cm x 59.5cm), this print perfectly renders the sharp contrast between the monochrome vintage collage and the vivid blue sky backdrop, grounded by Museum Frieder Burda’s modern, clean typography at the base. Its dynamic sense of movement, clever trompe-l’œil spatial illusion, and rich foundation in urban photography make it a compelling centerpiece for modern minimalist residences, creative agencies, architecture offices, and fine art poster collections.
